About this directory
What this directory is
Charlotte Deck Builder Guide lists 180 landscape designer and deck building businesses across Charlotte Metro. It’s built for homeowners who want to compare local builders side by side before picking up the phone: who’s active, what recent customers are saying about them, and how they stack up against others in the same market.
This is not a place where builders write their own profiles. Every listing starts from public business data (licensing, location, service scope) that we combine with a synthesis of recent Google reviews. We don’t republish review text wholesale. Instead we summarize the sentiment and patterns we find, and we link out to the actual Google listing so you can read the source reviews yourself.
How rankings actually get made
Rankings come from a published rubric applied to the data we collect: things like review sentiment, consistency of activity, and how current a business’s public information is. That’s it. There’s no call you can make and no invoice you can pay to move up the list. The full breakdown of what’s scored and how it’s weighted is on our methodology page, and it’s the same rubric for every business in every category.
A business owner can ask us to correct factual details: a wrong phone number, an outdated address, a service that’s no longer offered. What they can’t do is edit their own score, their sentiment summary, or their position relative to other builders. That separation is deliberate. It’s the only way the rankings stay worth trusting.
Sponsorship, if you see it
Some pages may carry a listing marked “Sponsored.” That label is always visible and that placement is always shown apart from the earned ranking, never blended into it. Paying for visibility does not change a builder’s score or where they land in the ranked list.
About enquiries
Charlotte Deck Builder Guide is an independent directory and comparison resource. We also generate enquiries for local providers: when you ask to be matched, we pass your enquiry along to providers relevant to your request, and we may receive a referral fee for doing so. That arrangement never touches scores or earned rankings. It’s kept separate on purpose, and full details are disclosed on the quote page whenever you request a match.
Who’s behind it
This site is published by Great Work Research, an independent publisher founded in 2025 to help homeowners in the Charlotte area choose deck builders they can trust. We work from public business records, verified customer reviews, and market data, and we don’t sell placement in our rankings. Every listing traces back to a real, checkable source, and the full rankings refresh monthly so the picture stays current. Individual listings also carry their own “last verified” date, which shows the specific record has been checked and maintained rather than just left to sit.
Editorial oversight sits with Rod Burnett, Lead researcher, who maintains the rubric and reviews how it’s applied across listings.

FAQ
- Can a builder pay to improve their ranking?
- No. Rankings come only from the published rubric applied to data we collect. Sponsorship, when present, is labelled separately and never changes a builder's earned position.
- How often is the information updated?
- The full ranking set refreshes monthly. Each listing also shows a last verified date so you can see when that specific record was last checked.
- Can a business correct its own listing?
- Yes, for factual details like address, phone number, or services offered. Businesses cannot edit their own score, sentiment summary, or ranking.
- What happens if I request a quote through the site?
- We pass your enquiry to providers relevant to your request and may earn a referral fee for the match. This is disclosed on the quote page and has no bearing on how any business is ranked.
- Who is responsible for the rankings?
- Rod Burnett, Lead researcher at Great Work Research, oversees the rubric and its application across all listings.
